For 34 years, Matt Anzelc has exhibited a tremendous love and dedication toward all those who have been involved with organized dentistry. He has always been willing and able to stand up and speak out for what he felt was in the best interest of all dentists and their patients. His unwavering ethical beliefs and strong leadership skills led to the synthesis of the Minnesota Dental Association’s Peer Review Manual. This feat was accomplished over the four consecutive years that he chaired the MDA Peer Review Committee.
Dr. Anzelc graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree in 1974. Today, he practices as a general dentist in Hibbing. Throughout his years of practice Matt has interfaced well with the dental community and has always gone the extra mile for his colleagues, his patients, and the people of Hibbing. Outside of his profession, he has been extremely involved and supportive of his local Blessed Sacrament Church. The past several years, while serving as the Northeastern District trustee and being very involved in many aspects of organized dentistry, he spent countless hours on a daily basis attending to both of his parents’ personal needs in two separate extended care facilities.
Dr. Anzelc is a past Minnesota Dental Association trustee for the Northeastern District Dental Society (NEDDS) (2005-2008) and a past-president of the Northeastern District (1999-2000). As well, he has been deeply involved in the MINDENPAC Board of Directors and with the MDA’s Legislative Affairs Committee, seeing to it that the Association continues to strive for success in the state legislature. One of Matt’s many contributions was the creation of Dental Day at the Capitol. He was also instrumental in initiating the process which led to a loan forgiveness program underwritten by the IRR Board which will help bring new dentists to the Iron Range. He has spent numerous hours meeting and discussing pertinent dental issues with area legislators — after developing long-term relationships with them.
Dr. Anzelc has been a constant advocate for organized dentistry. He has led by example and has served on numerous committees both for the MDA and NEDDS. At the MDA, Matt has served on the Peer Review Committee and on the Midwest Dental Benefits Board of Directors. At any of these meetings, they will tell you, Matt will always be sure to personally greet everyone who attends.
Matt Anzelc is always willing to roll up his sleeves and get the job done no matter what is necessary or how long it takes. He leads by example, and is more concerned about what gets done than who gets the credit for it. For his devotion and exceptional leadership skills, it is our privilege to recognize Dr. Matt Anzelc as the Minnesota Dental Association’s 2009 Guest of Honor.
