The Editors:
No matter how old you are or how long you have been in practice, the immediacy of change to some part of your professional life is the proverbial 800-pound gorilla sitting in your waiting  room, lurking in the operatory, playing hob with your imagination if you let it. In the service of providing some perspective on where we’ve been and where we are, our cover feature this  issue presents Part One of a great big list of everything we could think of about materials, techniques, processes, prevention, and patients. Why? Because being in a good place can help  answer the question, “Am I going in the right direction … for my patients, for myself?”
