Recruitment efforts are highlighted at the annual “Vendor/Placement Fair,” sponsored by the Student District of the Minnesota Dental Association every fall. Dentists wishing to sell a practice...dentists and other community leaders wishing to recruit dentists...and other interested parties can sponsor a booth at a nominal cost. It’s a great venue to showcase your practice and community! Contact the Minnesota Dental Association at 612-767-8400 for more information.
“Grow your own!” People from rural towns are more likely to choose to practice in a rural town than those raised in an urban setting. It pays to reach junior and senior high school students early to encourage them to pursue a dental health career. One of the most organized ways to do that is through “HOSA” – the Health Occupations Students of America. Minnesota has active local chapters and advisors throughout the state. If you’re a dentist who’s interested in influencing young people to go into dentistry, dental hygiene or dental assisting, consider offering a student the opportunity to “job shadow” you for a day.
Once a student has chosen a dental career path, it pays to mentor them on a one-to-one basis throughout their professional education, and afterwards. The Minnesota Dental Association collaborates with the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry to match every dental student with a practicing dentist to serve as a mentor. If you’re a member dentist and are interested in developing a long-term mentor relationship with a student, contact the Minnesota Dental Association at 612-767-8400.
