You recently received a letter from the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) regarding a brief, online survey. The MDA is fully supportive of the Legislative Auditor’s efforts to evaluate Medical Assistance payment rates for dental services. We strongly encourage you to complete the online survey by August 27. It is important that they understand the perspective of all dentists regardless of your participation in the Medical Assistance program.

During the 2012 legislative session, the OLA was charged with evaluating dental reimbursement rates for Medical Assistance. They will assess the payment rates, their adequacy and their impact on patient access to the provider network. They will also assess to what extent the payment rates impact provider participation in the state-assisted programs.
The MDA is optimistic that the OLA’s program evaluation will confirm that Medicaid reimbursement rates for dental services are woefully inadequate. The evaluation findings will be issued in a report to the Legislature and public in January 2013, and they will lay the groundwork for targeted legislation in the upcoming legislative session.
The OLA is a professional, nonpartisan audit and evaluation office that resides within the legislative branch of the Minnesota government. The primary goals of the OLA are to strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of state government through audits and reports that are available to the Legislature and the public. The OLA has a positive reputation for thorough and objective program evaluations.
