Dental offices and members of the ADA should be aware that there are fraudulent membership renewal communications being sent via facsimile to offices. The ADA does not ever use fax communications to collect membership dues. The ADA does not sell, rent or publish in any way the fax numbers of current or former member dentists in their database.
The description of the fax looks like it is a regular membership invoice that asks the recipient to send a $575 payment to the American Dental Association/ADA Association, Membership Processing Dept, P.O. Box 1403, Brockton, MA 02303-1483. This is the version that the ADA has seen. There may be other versions out there that the ADA has not seen yet.
At this time it is unknown how many dental offices received the scam fax, but based on the number of calls the ADA has received, it appears to be widespread. The ADA has informed authorities and is taking the proper steps to inform member and nonmember dentists throughout the country by: contacting all member and nonmember dentists who have a valid email address in their database; contacting all constituent and component executive directors and leadership; contacting all constituent/component membership and communications staff; and providing all ADA staff with special instructions for responding to calls from members. Members who have questions about this are encouraged to contact the ADA Member Service Center at 800-621-8099.
Please remember: If you receive a dues statement reminder from the MDA via email, you would also receive a link to pay your dues online, which you would need a login and password for. If you have any questions regarding MDA dues please contact the Membership Department at 612-767-8400, ext. 110.
