The MDA wants to let members know that Pat Glasrud, Director of Policy Development, is currently on a three-month disability leave, as she continues her ongoing treatment for Stage IV cancer. Many members, in particular the members of the four committees that she has staffed, have gotten to know and worked closely with Pat in the nine years that she has been with the Association. Pat has written a message to members below that we wanted to share with everyone.
As many of you know, over the past two plus years I have been undergoing continuous kinds of chemotherapy, radiation and radiofrequency ablation to win my fight against Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Many of you have shared with me your own stories or those of close loved ones who have undergone the same battle...and won! I cannot thank you enough for that support.
My New Year’s resolution for 2012 is to take time for myself to rest and rejuvenate so that I can successfully achieve the highest quality of life possible. Cancer is a formidable foe and I need all my strength to allow me to continue to receive and respond well to my treatments. For that reason, I will be taking a three-month leave of absence from my MDA duties from now until April. At that time, my doctor and I will re-evaluate next best steps.
I want all of you to know that I’ll miss you dearly, especially those who serve on the committees I staff: Rural Health Care, Children’s Health, Elderly and Special Needs Adults and the Evidence-based Dentistry Task Force. MDA members are the hallmark of excellent volunteerism, and I know all of us will be enriched as we continue to serve others.
The Executive Committee, along with our Interim Executive Director, Linda Tacke, will ensure that nothing “falls through the cracks” during my absence. The changes underway at the MDA are truly wonderful and we have some very exciting stuff to look forward to.
I do hope you’ll feel free to remain in touch with me, as I will with you on Facebook and my home email (email@example.com). Thank you for allowing me to be part of your MDA membership over the past (almost) nine years. You’re the best!
