“Navigating Proposed New HIPAA Changes and Preventing Artificial Intelligence Violations 2026”

This course provides dental professionals with a practical overview of HIPAA compliance considering emerging technologies and proposed updates to the HIPAA Security Rule. Participants will learn how federal regulators are responding to the growing threat of cyberattacks, ransomware, data breaches, and the use of AI tools within healthcare environments.

Special emphasis will be placed on the use of artificial intelligence in dental practices, including the risks associated with consumer AI platforms, AI-powered note-taking applications, imaging software, virtual assistants, patient communication tools, and automated administrative systems. Participants will gain a clear understanding of when AI use may create HIPAA compliance concerns and what safeguards should be implemented to protect patient information.

Objectives:

  1. Discuss proposed changes to the HIPAA Security Rule and its impact on dental offices.
  2. Explanation of how artificial intelligence tools may create risks involving PHI and ePHI.
  3. Implement risk management strategies to reduce the likelihood of HIPAA violations and reportable breaches.
  4. And more!
