Presenters and Program

Morning Session 
Richard Small’s seminar, “Improving Patient Safety: An Analysis of Dental Risks and Liability,” will present strategies to enhance quality care and patient safety by identifying potential malpractice issues and associated clinical risk management principles. Mr. Small practices law in Michigan and is an insurance agent for OMSNIC and Fortress. He is the Executive Director and General Counsel for the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Great Lakes Society of Oral Surgeons. He also represents the Council of Michigan Dental Specialties and sits on the Michigan Dental Association Access to Care Study Group.

Afternoon Session
MDA Legal Counsel Angela Amann will host a discussion on delegation of duties, Minnesota Dental Practice Act, Minnesota Board of Dentistry administrative rules, and infection control complaints and requirements.

Dr. Richard Nadeau, D.D.S., M.P.H., will be presenting on recordkeeping requirements for the Minnesota Board of Dentistry, including how to assess your patient records to ensure that they meet the standards of Minnesota law. He will also cover safe prescribing for opioids and the latest research on alternative options. Dr. Nadeau is Director of the Division of Comprehensive Care and of Clinical Treatment Planning at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He was in private practice in Minneapolis until joining the School of Dentistry faculty in 1993.
