We’ve Come A Long Way!
Inspiring stories of three women dentists

The MDA is excited to announce the annual January Women’s Seminar. Look forward to hearing words of wisdom and funny stories and having the chance to ask questions and share your own stories with three fascinating women dentists, all with inspiring stories and diverse experiences. This seminar provides a great way to share ideas, meet with new and old friends and catch up with classmates in an informal and relaxed setting. Dental students and graduate students are encouraged to attend! Register online by completing the form below or mail, email, or fax us the print version.

Overview

Women dentists have come a long way! Now that our dental school classes are comprised of at least 50 percent women, we sometimes take the history of women in dentistry for granted. Attend the Women’s Seminar on January 14 and hear the stories of three women dentists: Dr. Anna Hampel, a 1951 graduate from dental school in Germany; Dr. Ann Theis, a 1971 graduate from Sweden; and Dr. Catalina Morarasu, a 1988 graduate from Romania. Dr. Hempl and Dr. Theis attended the School of Dentistry in order to receive an American dental license and have served as faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Morarasu received a Ph.D. in Romania after dental school and then came to Minnesota because of the world reputation of it’s residency in TMD. These three women represent different generations and experiences and will talk about what being a woman in dentistry has meant to them as well as how their backgrounds have formed their lives. Dr. Anna Hampel will also be honored. She retired in 1992 at the rank of professor from the Department of Oral Science at the University of Minnesota.
