MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Dr. Michael Hamann was selected as the recipient of the Minnesota Dental Association (MDA) 2014 Outstanding Service Award.  He was honored by over 9,000 dental professionals in attendance at the MDA’s annual convention, the Star of the North Meeting at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1972, and following a two-year stint as a Navy dentist at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jackson, North Carolina, Dr. Hamann, originally from Willmar, began a new dental practice in Perham in 1974.  2014 marks his 40th year at Hamann Family Dentistry.

Dr. Hamann has been an active member of organized dentistry.  The West Central District Dental Society chose him as their representative on the MDA Constitution, Bylaws and Ethics Committee, where he has served for the past three years, and as a delegate at the House of Delegates meeting for the past five years.

Dr. Hamann has also been a pillar in his community. He serves on the school board, has served on the city planning commission, and for 25 years he served as a coach at Perham High School, mentoring and encouraging countless students – and later young professionals – in achieving their life goals. He has also donated his time and talent to help children in Otter Tail County receive needed dental care during the annual Give Kids a Smile event.

The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans. You can learn more at www.mndental.org.
