Dr. Stephen Litton Receives 2015 Guest of Honor Award

(Minneapolis, MN) – – Dr. Stephen Litton was selected as the recipient of the Minnesota Dental Association (MDA) 2015 Guest of Honor Award. He was honored by nearly 9,000 dental professionals the Star of the North Meeting, the MDA’s annual convention, at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

Dr. Litton received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, a certificate in orthodontics, and a Ph.D. in Anatomy, all from the University of Minnesota. He had a private orthodontic dental practice in Golden Valley for over 40 years, while continuing to be actively involved at the University. He was an assistant professor in the School of Dentistry’s Anatomy Department from 1972-1985, served on the School of Dentistry Alumni Society Board for 12 years, and on the University of Minnesota Alumni Association National Board for six years. He was awarded the Distinguished Dental Alumnus Award in 2001, the UMAA National Volunteer of the Year Award in 2006, and the Alumni Service Award from the Board of Regents in 2009.

Throughout his career, Dr. Litton was actively involved in organized dentistry both at the state and district levels. He held many positions in the Minneapolis District Dental Society, serving on numerous committees, on its Executive Council and in all officer positions, including president in 1999-2000. The district awarded him the Guest of Honor award in 2005 for his exceptional service. He also served a six-year term as treasurer of the Minnesota Dental Association, has been a delegate to the MDA House of Delegates, and is currently the president of the Minnesota Dental Foundation. He also serves as fundraising lead for the Minnesota Mission of Mercy.

Dr. Litton has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the profession by several state and national dental organizations, having received: the Roger J. Fredsall Distinguished Service Award from the Minnesota Association of Orthodontists; the Earl E. Shepard Distinguished Service Award from the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists; the Outstanding Service Award and the President’s Award from the Minnesota Dental Association; and the Gini Award from Smiles Change Lives. He has also been inducted into the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
