Dr. Frederick Nolting Receives 2015 Outstanding Service Award

(Minneapolis, MN) – – Dr. Frederick Nolting was selected as the recipient of the Minnesota Dental Association (MDA) 2015 Outstanding Service Award. He was honored by nearly 9,000 dental professionals in attendance at the MDA’s annual convention, the Star of the North Meeting at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

Dr. Nolting graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1974 and served as a clinical radiology instructor and course director at the University of Louisville (Kentucky) School of Dentistry and then at the Rochester (Minnesota) Area Vocational Technical School before beginning his own practice in Byron, Minnesota, in 1978.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nolting has been active in organized dentistry. He spent several years as a part of the MDA’s Environment and Safety Committee, Disaster Preparedness Subcommittee and Radiology Safety Work Group. He also authored eleven articles in Northwest Dentistry, the official journal of the Minnesota Dental Association. He has been actively involved in the Zumbro Valley Dental Society and the Southeastern District Dental Society, including as its president, as an MDA trustee, and as a delegate to the House of Delegates for many years. He currently serves as co-chair of the MDA Environment and Safety Committee and has been a member of the MDA’s Education Committee and Membership Initiative Committee.

Over the years Dr. Nolting spearheaded many regulatory efforts, including: developing a radiology safety manual for MDA members to facilitate compliance with the Department of Health’s regulations; obtaining passage of a Good Samaritan Law to provide liability protections to dentists when volunteering in declared emergencies; serving on a task force of the Department of Health to review ionizing radiation rules affecting the dental profession; and, most recently, working collaboratively with legislators and others at the MDA to obtain passage of a cone beam regulation exemption for dental practices. In 2010, the MDA awarded Dr. Nolting the Legislative Achievement Award for his initiative regarding immunity for organizations assisting with disaster response in Minnesota.
